As members of the California Association for Local Economic Development (“CALED”) Board, RSG Principal and President Jim Simon and Director Suzy Kim will be speakers for two separate panel sessions at the Completing Development Projects: CALED’s Finance & Real Estate Summit. The in-person event will take place in two weeks at the Riverside Mission Inn in Riverside from October 12–13.

If you will be attending the event, come chat with Jim and Suzy to share what your city or county is doing to complete development projects—and how we may be able to help!

For more information on the two panel sessions, please continue reading below.

Session Title

Clearing the Road: Removing Barriers to Development in your Community

Where and When

Wednesday, October 12 at 1:15pm / 45-minute session

Weather permitting, the session will be in an outside setting.

Description

While many communities claim to be “open for business” they inadvertently put up roadblocks in their daily processes. This session will discuss what can be done at the city or county level to increase and encourage development. Regulatory impediments such as impact fees and local regulations like Conditional Use Permits, design review, & parking requirements can all hinder progress. Speakers will discuss how to overcome these issues as well as others such as land acquisition and Brownfield clean-up.

Speakers

Ignacio Dayrit, Center for Creative Land Recycling

Suzy Kim, RSG, Inc.

Jennifer McLain Hiramoto, City of Ontario

Session Title

Policy Agenda to Complete Projects in CA

Where and When

Thursday, October 13 at 9:30am / 90-minute session

Weather permitting, the session will be in an outside setting.

Description

If you are working on developing projects in California, whether you are involved in the financing, permitting, dealing with environmental, land use policy, or a public sector professional that plays a role in these areas, this breakfast is a chance to give input on CALED’s policy agenda for addressing barriers and opportunities as they relate to developing projects in CA. Over the last several years, we’ve had success in protecting and improving tax increment financing tools, as well as stopping the expansion of the Surplus Lands Act. As we look to our future policy goals, we know it is imperative to include those of you who are building the physical projects that will deliver opportunities for California residents. Please join us at this breakfast and hear an update and discuss what is needed for the future to complete projects in California. Your voice and experience matters!

Speakers

Carolyn Hull, City of Los Angeles

Aaron Laurel, City of West Sacramento
