April is National Fair Housing Month, and in celebration, we want to share how the day came about and why we’re so passionate about ensuring fair housing for everyone. Let’s dive into the campaign, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), that raises awareness of fair housing rights for all. The recognition was spurred from the signing of the Fair Housing Act by President Lyndon B. Johnson in April of 1968. This pivotal piece of legislation prohibited housing discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, and family status. It’s relation to Martin Luther King, Jr is rooted in his leadership in the Civil Rights Movement and his beliefs of equality. Today, the National Fair Housing Training Academy (NFHTA) supports the HUD’s Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) and Fair Housing Assistance Program (FHAP) to help end housing discrimination.

At RSG, we believe housing is a basic human right and the foundation of a stable and successful community. We are determined to create opportunities for residents to live in housing they can afford, helping to provide the necessary platform to nurture and protect quality of life for all residents. Affordable housing is the key to giving residents more income to support other needs and boost economic development in their communities. Providing housing services is an opportunity to embrace, inspire, and create the changes so desperately needed and deserved in communities all across California. We are not alone in our passion, and together we can positively shape our future to be an inclusive one!
